What is Coiled Tubing Drilling?

——Exploring Drilling Technology: A Continuous, Efficient, Low-Damage Solution

Coiled Tubing Drilling (CTD): An advanced oil & gas solution using continuous tubing to increase drilling efficiency, minimize formation damage, and enhance oil recovery through underbalanced operations.

Coiled Tubing Drilling (CTD) is an advanced drilling technology in oil and gas extraction. It employs a continuous, coiled flexible steel pipe to replace traditional rigid drill tubes for drilling operations. Compared to conventional sectional drill tube drilling, CTD technology demonstrates significant advantages in challenging well conditions and enhanced recovery rates through its unique operational approach.

The core strength of CTD lies in its  "continuity" Coiled tubing eliminates the frequent stringing operations required in conventional drilling, significantly reducing rig setup time and markedly improving operational efficiency.

More importantly, CTD technology effortlessly enables underbalanced drilling—maintaining wellbore pressure below formation pressure throughout the drilling process. This method effectively protects oil and gas reservoirs, minimizes formation damage, and enables real-time detection of oil and gas layers. It is particularly suitable for sidetracking and well repair operations in mature oil fields, as well as the development of complex structural wells.

The implementation of efficient and safe coiled tubing drilling imposes strict requirements on the quality of the tubing itself. Oil tubes must maintain consistent performance over a length of thousands of meters, while withstanding repeated bending fatigue, high-pressure internal fluids, and complex downhole corrosive environments. MTSCO specializes in producing welded coiled tubing tailored for this demanding application through its proprietary manufacturing plant Siri Tubing.

We use high-performance materials such as 2205 and 2507 duplex stainless steel, as well as 625 and 825 nickel alloys. This type of material ensures excellent corrosion resistance and strength for pipelines deployed in harsh environments such as deep water and underground applications.

Our coiled tubing reach lengths of up to 50,000 feet per spool. Every product undergoes 100% high-pressure testing, withstanding pressures up to 15,000 psi. MTSCO deliver safe and reliable coiled tubing drilling solutions for oilfield service clients worldwide.
